Basic Payment Protections Go a Long Way

Today’s cybercriminals are dynamic, continually testing and evolving new methods to infiltrate payment networks and steal cardholder data. But Visa’s analysis of recent attacks shows that a majority of successful breaches are actually pulled from a single (and relatively basic) cyber-crime playbook: stealing credentials that belong to outside vendors who work closely with merchants.

Many businesses, especially the small- and medium-sized, work with third-party payment integrators to set up point-of-sale (POS) systems and to make periodic updates to the system.
